Privacy Statement

Privacy and Your Personal Information

At Wise Directions Aged Care, we understand that navigating aged care often involves sharing personal and sensitive information about you, your parent or another loved one.

We take that responsibility seriously.

Wise Directions Aged Care is committed to protecting your privacy and handling personal information carefully, respectfully and transparently in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in that Act, where those obligations apply to our business.

The Act regulates how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, stored and protected. The Australian Privacy Principles establish standards for the handling of personal information, including sensitive and health information.

Because our aged care navigation services may involve information about an older person’s health, care needs, mobility, medications, living arrangements and aged care assessments, we recognise that much of the information entrusted to us may be particularly sensitive.

Our commitment is to collect only the information reasonably necessary to provide the services you have asked us to provide, use that information appropriately, protect it from unauthorised access or disclosure, and respect your rights in relation to that information.

Sensitive and health information

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), health information is treated as a form of sensitive information and receives additional protection.

Wise Directions may need to collect health or other sensitive information where it is reasonably necessary to understand your parent’s circumstances and assist your family to navigate aged care and support options.

Where required, we will obtain consent before collecting sensitive information and will handle that information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Our commitment under the Australian Privacy Principles

In keeping with the Australian Privacy Principles, Wise Directions aims to ensure that personal information is:

  • collected only where it is reasonably necessary for our services;
  • collected fairly and transparently;
  • used or disclosed only for the purpose for which it was collected, or as otherwise permitted by law;
  • kept accurate and up to date where reasonably practicable;
  • protected from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure; and
  • accessible to the person concerned, subject to any exceptions provided by law.

We also aim to give clients a clear understanding of why we collect information, how we use it, who we may share it with, and how they can access or correct the information we hold about them.

Your privacy rights

The Australian Privacy Principles provide important rights in relation to personal information, including rights to access and correct personal information.

If you would like to know what personal information Wise Directions holds about you, or believe that information is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, you may contact us and request access or correction.

Privacy enquiries and complaints

If you have concerns about how Wise Directions has collected, used, stored or disclosed personal information, please contact us in the first instance.

We will take privacy concerns seriously and aim to respond promptly and fairly.

Where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies and you are not satisfied with our response, you may also be able to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Our commitment to you

When families come to Wise Directions, they may be sharing information during a stressful and deeply personal period.

We will treat your personal information with care, collect only what we reasonably need, protect the information you entrust to us, and use it to help you and your family navigate aged care with greater confidence.
